Freedom of expression and academic freedom are protected and encouraged at FIU. The aim of the Difficult Dialogues Initiative is to make our campus climate more welcoming, inclusive, and safe for the free exchange of ideas and differences in perspectives that come with building a diverse and global learning community.
The program initiatives are
- To engage the campus community in dialogue around sensitive topics and issues.
- To create a campus environment where students, staff and faculty can engage deeply in intellectual and personal explorations of complex and contentious issues
- To increase skills sets that are useful when encountering difficult dialogues
- To facilitate recognition by individuals that their experiences, thoughts and fears can impact dialogue.
Workshops & Training
ADA: The ADA Understanding and Accommodating seminar is designed to provide participants with information, guidance and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Diversity at Work: The Diversity at Work training session addresses subconscious biases and covers an array of issues pertaining to diversity and inclusion the workplace.
Sexual Harassment: This hands-on seminar addresses how to prevent unacceptable behavior.
